Pathverse In Action: Wearable Data Download Capabilities for Researchers
With the increased role of mHealth solutions in academic research, Pathverse stands at the forefront by simplifying access to wearable data directly from the user’s Google Health Kit or Apple Health app.
One major study benefiting from these capabilities is the Gamification with Augmented Reality Mobile Innovations and Physical Activity (GAMIPhy) Study.
The GAMIPhy Study aims to investigate how the levels of physical activity (including steps, walking, running, and other moderate and vigorous physical activities) vary with different levels of playing the augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go. The study also aims to investigate how the gameplay aspects, location settings, individual factors, and enrolment in other programmes will influence motivation for non-sedentary gameplay and higher levels of physical activity while playing the augmented reality mobile game Pokémon Go. This prospective longitudinal observation study is of a single target population of 1000 residents in Singapore that are actively playing Pokémon Go. The participants will be tracked for 3 months with 2 main surveys and weekly short surveys fielded to them. The participants will also report gameplay data and provide access to physical activity or fitness data within their mobile phone using the Pathverse app.
The GAMIPhy Study exemplifies Pathverse’s utility for conducting large-scale, longitudinal studies by providing robust and customizable data collection that would otherwise require extensive technical resources to manage.
With Pathverse’s integration with Apple Health Kit and Google FIt, participants’ physical activity data are seamlessly compiled, providing rich, granular insights that bring researchers closer to understanding real-world physical activity behaviours.
